How did it happen?
The universe started off as a small "singularity" or very hot particle which from 0-1 millionth of a sec (inflation period) had a temperature of 10 million million degrees. When the universe was created it all started from this small entity (smaller than a pore on our skin) which in less then a tenth of a second blew up to create the universe. The big bang theory talks about an entity or energy that is able to push out space. This vast expansion is known as "inflation".
At the point of inflation, equal amounts of matter and antimatter were created. In present times we can only find evidence of matter. There have been some theories about the disappearance of antimatter, but there is no real evidence to prove the theories. One theory of why matter dominates over anti matter, is that soon after the ‘big bang,’ a very slight imbalance developed between matter and antimatter. After equal amounts of matter and antimatter had destroyed each other, this allowed a small amount of matter to dominate in our region of space. Without the survival of this small amount of matter, the universe as we know it would not exist. The inflation period stopped when this initial energy was transformed into matter and energy as we know it today. Every scientist believes the big bang theory as there is evidence to support it. Even in 1951, the Catholic church officially pronounced the Big Bang Theory to be in accordance with the bible.
