What will happen in the future?
Scientists are still wondering to this day if the universe will ever stop expending or if eventually it will reverse and contract and collapse in a "Big Crunch". Initially scientists had believed that the universe had first contracted and then the Big Bang had caused it to expand.
Steven Hawkins's theory is that in a billion years the sun will grow 200 times the size of what it is now and have a temperature of 200 billion degrees turning the earth into a molten planet which will be consumed by the sun that has now turned into a red giant. He reckons that the universe will go backwards and it will be swallowed up by one big black hole which nothing can escape from not even light.
